Mistakes you're making at the Salon
With seasons changing comes along the desire to change your look. You are excited about that ombré look you’ve been dying to get since winter, and now the time has finally come. But before you go in, we would like to point out a few little tiny mistakes you may have, consciously or unconsciously, been making.
Avoid these top mistakes the next time you go in to your appointment, to get the most out of it.
1. Not referencing your preferred hairstyle to your hairdresser
Show your hairdresser a reference of the hairstyle or haircut you want. This helps them get a better idea of what you’re asking to get. They can help you achieve your desired look through counseling you and advising you on how to get the look by slightly modifying the style so that it would best suit you without major alterations.
2. Not telling your hairdresser about previous color and style sessions
Communication is key. It is always best to tell your hairdresser about any problems you have had about coloring and haircut. This gives them a better idea about what they will be working with and what is the best approach to your desired goal.
3. Avoiding a consultation appointment
Whether you are thinking of doing a drastic color change, or wanting to get a new haircut, always go in for a consultation session. Most salons offer a complimentary consultation session so that they can understand you and your new desired look. They learn more about your color and styling history so that they will be able to provide you a tailored plan that brings out the best outcome for you.
4. Coming into your appointment with hair full of product
If you are the type of person who is used to styling her hair every day and using hair products on a regular basis, you might want to consider skipping that before going into your appointment. Product build up can create a coat on the hair that prevents other products, like bleach, from penetrating your hair and stopping it from getting absorbed, resulting in an uneven outcome. To avoid this mess, shampoo your hair with a clarifying shampoo the day before your appointment for best results.
5. Not speaking up
If you feel like something seems off, like your scalp feels tingly or itchy from the hair dye or bleach, or you feel the style you requested to be different, don’t be shy and speak up. Tell your hairdresser what concerns you and what feels wrong, and they will be more than glad to explain their process and put your mind at ease. At the end of the day, all they want is you to leave the salon looking fresh and full of confidence, and most importantly satisfied.
6. Hair cut after hair color
If you are thinking of finally getting the Ombré, balayage or highlight effect and a new haircut, always get the haircut first. This way the hairdresser can know where to place the Ombré or highlight exactly. Accuracy is key.
7. Expecting instant results
If you’re thinking of going from dark brown or black to platinum in one session, sorry to burst your bubble, but that won’t happen so quickly. Drastic change needs multiple sessions. In situations like this, chemicals (like bleach) are used to lift your natural color, and that takes time. You don’t want to damage your hair by exposing it to chemicals back-to-back. If you end up rushing this process, you will end up with seriously damaged hair, and we both know, you don’t want that.
